The Palace Hotel Kota Kinabalu is a recipient of The Blue Ribbon certification, bestowed upon it in 2015 by the Ministry of Health.
The recognition was accorded to the hotel for implementing the smoking free zone and successfully ensuring a 100 percent success in this respect.
The certificate was presented in conjunction with the Ministry’s anti-smoking campaign held in collaboration with the World Health Organisation(WHO).
The Blue Ribbon campaign was first introduced by WHO (World Health Organization) to ministries of health as an initiative to support the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
In Malaysia, the recognition is awarded by the Ministry of Health Promotion Board (MySihat) a statutory body under the Ministry of Health and the selection is carried out after consultation with WHO.
The main objective of this campaign is to raise awareness on the dangers of smoking and human rights to clean air. It also hoped to accord recognition to groups, institutions, communities and agencies who advocate and create smoke-free environment.
Other objectives are engaging the community in integrated advocacy and efforts towards smoke free policies.
